Liverpool merchant John Swire first opened an office in Shanghai in 1866 and from those very earliest days the company he established set out to foster closer relations between British and Chinese businessmen and our respective governments. “Our philosophy has been that business can only flourish in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust and we’re proud of the relationships we’ve built and the reputation we’ve established down the years.
