BP has operated in China for more than three decades and was one of the earliest foreign invested enterprises in China. During the past three decades we have played an active role in China's economic development. To date, with more than US$4 billion invested, BP is one of the leading foreign investors in China, where it has more than 30 joint ventures and wholly owned companies and more than 3,700 staff.
As one of the world's largest petroleum and petrochemicals companies, we are deeply committed to growing our business in China. BP cooperates with a number of Chinese petroleum and chemicals enterprises and has well-established operations in the China market.
BP's main business segments in China include production and import of natural gas; supplying aviation fuel; importing and marketing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG); retail service stations; lubricants; solar power installations; joint venture chemical plants and the sale of chemicals technology. Through these business segments, BP provides its customers with fuel for transportation, energy for heat and light, retail services and petrochemicals products for everyday items.
In addition to commercial projects, BP has been actively engaged in energy research activities, particularly clean energy and alternative energy R&D initiatives, aiming to develop clean, sustainable and local energy solutions to support the Chinese economic development.
In parallel, BP has been working together and investing in the community to help build the local capacity in addressing the local development issues. By the end of 2006, BP’s total community investment in China exceeded US$9 million.
