Founded in 1908, Bank of Communications was one of the four major banks in China and one of the note-issuing banks in those days. Now Bank of Communications is one of the top 5 largest banks in China which is headquartered in Shanghai and has more than 2600 branches in the mainland and 7 branches overseas.
Bank of Communications occupies a special position in China’s financial history. Not only does it inherit a century old national financial brand name, but it is also a pioneer in China’s financial system reform campaign.
On April 1, 1987, Bank of Communications was reorganized and became the first national state-owned joint-stock commercial bank. On June 23, 2005, Bank of Communications was listed as a public company in Hongkong, becoming the fist mainland commercial bank to be listed overseas. On November 18, 2006, Bank of Communications became the Global Partner of Expo2010 Shanghai China. On May 15, 2007, Bank of Communications was successfully listed in the A-share market, marking a return journey of the first Chinese commercial bank listed overseas.
The strategic objective of Bank of Communications is to develop itself into a “bank for the global community”, which is initiative, offers integrated services, is operationally intensive yet complete with advanced management methodologies to become a first class modern financial institution.
