Breeze From South West China
Artist: Xiang Silou
At: Burrell Collection, Glasgow; Ricefield Arts and Cultural Centre, Glasgow
Renowned woodblock artist, Professor Xiang Silou is undertaking a four-week residency at the Burrell Collection, Glasgow. His art is truly unique among the woodblock print art being created today. Currently his art focuses on the complex contours of human faces. These woodblock prints tend to be of a large scale, so that the exquisite craftsmanship brings forth even the minutest detail of every aspect of the face from its wrinkles to its multiple expressions. His carving is skilful and vigorous, with rich shifting tones visible in each line and space.

Chiral
Artist: Silia Ka Tung
At: Swiss Cottage Gallery
Part of a generation that grew up surrounded by graphic imagery, Silia Ka Tung's work has its roots in the dynamic and the optimistic. She paints imaginary micro-graphics and doodle scenes of living organisms, a magical world celebrated on canvas. The work consists of a series of large prints created on a computer which are then hand finished by painting and drawing onto the prints or using embroidery. The brightly coloured images use reflected images that recall the designs of William Morris as well as the animated neon advertising signs of East Asian cities.
