Exploring the relationship between language and communication, Xu Bing often takes calligraphy as a starting point for his highly methodical practice, and recombines elements drawn from genuine Chinese characters to invent new ones. His work draws attention to the arbitrary nature of language, his highly distinctive practice influenced by a life-long fascination with it. The Chen Qi woodblock exhibition brings a number of remarkable prints to the cities of Glasgow and Durham. The prints on exhibition are substantial in size at two-metres square. Each made with unique delicacy and outstanding ingenuity employing traditional printmaking techniques. Chen Qi has exhibited extensively, most recently his monumental 10 metre high prints were seen at the British Library.  Click here for more information.
