To mark the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games the National Railway Museum is celebrating its Chinese links with a new exhibition of photographs, a  Chinese festival, Web exhibition and Learning and Community workshops. NRM is also opening the cab of one of the largest locomotives that Britian has ever built, the Chinese Engine.

The photography exhibition, titled 'The Last Chinese Days of Steam' by Michael Rodes brings together his portraits of locomotives, landscapes and people taken since 2003, images that also show China in a time of rapid change.

We are celebrating the Easter holidays with a 'Chinese Festival'. This will include examples of Chinese culture past and present with workshops, demonstrations and talks. From May there will be access the cab of the Chinese engine - one of only three of her kind in Europe  for the first time. Visitors can find out how the engine worked and what life would have been like for her crew.

Starting in August and running until December we are hosting a web-based exhibition called 'A Modern View'. Chinese railways have, and are still modernising very rapidly. China is perceived as one of the leaders in teh world of modern railway. This exhibition, featuring the photography of Charlie Stewart, explores the greatest engineering achievement of the 21st century - the Lhasa Railway. This is the first time NRM has mounted an exhibition solely on its website.
