As part of the CHINA NOW events Chinese Arts Centre will organise a national campaign in China to select and specially commission an artist to visit the UK and become part of our residential programme. This will be a wonderful opportunity for people visiting the North West to preview behind the scenes of the daily working life of a Chinese artist. About Breathe: Chinese Arts Centre is committed to developing creative opportunities for artists of Chinese descent. Chinese Arts Centre’s approach to working with artists is characterised by a commitment to providing support, stimulus and encouraging risk-taking. The process of making is considered as important as exhibiting. The Breathe residency is an opportunity to provide an artist the time and space to contemplate their practise. It is not necessary that the artist makes finished work during this period and Chinese Arts Centre will not pressure the artist to do this. The time could be used for research and development of ideas, and the form the residency takes is entirely up to the artist to choose.
