Tea is a fundamental part of Chinese life. An old Chinese saying identifies tea as one of the seven basic necessities, along with firewood, rice, cooking oil, salt, sauce and vinegar. Tea (cha) is associated with China more than with any other country, where its origins date back over 5,000 years. Although, at first, it was drunk purely as a tonic, tea now infiltrates everyday life in China and beyond.

The CHINA NOW TEA interactive exhibition is the first of its kind to be shown across the UK. It comes direct from the China National Tea Museum in Hangzhou, the only museum which specialises in tea and tea culture in China. The exhibition explores the long history and culture of tea as well as its health and medicinal qualities in both ancient times and in today’s China. In addition to exploring the history of tea, Chinalife, the London based tea company, will present the modern elements of Chinese tea drinking through a contemporary tea bar, workshops and lectures.

CHINA NOW TEA launches at Asia House then moves to other venues across London and regionally.
