China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe The China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe (CDPPAT) was formed in 1987, and comprises of 88 performers, which includes 55 performers with hearing impairments, 28 performers with visual impairments and 5 performers with physical disabilities. The UK tour troupe will comprise of 30 performers plus additional support staff. CDPPAT signature piece is the incomparable “one thousand hands Bodhisattva” 千 手 观 音 featuring twenty-one hearing impaired dancers. Truly breathtaking images are created as the dancers produce perfectly timed and choreographed movements. It was first performed internationally at the Kennedy Centre in Washington DC in front of former President Bill Clinton, senior White House staff and spectators. It generated rave reviews and has since showcased in over 40 countries on five continents, in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People to the Sydney Opera House, New York’s Carnegie Hall to Milan’s Teatro alla Scala.  In 2004 it was performed at the Closing Ceremony of the Paralympics in Athens. The show that will tour the UK has been choreographed by the internationally acclaimed artist, Zhang Jigang. Zhang Jigang is responsible for the creation of more than 300 large-scale productions in over 60 countries. Currently he is developing and directing the 2008 Summer Olympics Opening and Closing Ceremonies with critically acclaimed director Zhang Yimou (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero, House of Flying Daggers, Curse of the Golden Flower).
