Join us for a magical morning of music with the Silk String Quartet, an exciting professional Chinese string group based in the UK. Musicians Cheng Yu, Sun Zhuo, Qiu Zenghui and Han Ying will introduce a selection of traditional and contemporary Chinese music, including some of their own arrangements.
The UK Chinese Ensemble was established in 1996 and is a leading Chinese music group in the UK and Europe comprising professionally trained Chinese musicians resident in Britain.
Founded in 1976 with an Education & Community Programme established in 1989 Spitalfields Festival has a longstanding reputation for producing astounding musical experiences for audiences and participants throughout the east of London. Our programme has three principal elements: a three week summer festival which enjoys an international reputation for high quality and celebratory music programming in inspiring spaces; a ten day winter festival which is known through London as a rich alternative seasonal offering and a year-round learning and participation programme known through the country as ground-breaking in its approach.
Spitalfields Festival has an international and a local reputation. It is known as one of the most imaginative and successful music festivals within the UK and, at the same time, is rooted within the east of London, being the arts partner of choice for Tower Hamlets music service. We run substantial marketing campaigns, receive significant press and broadcast coverage and have a strong on the ground presence within the area.
In the heart of East London, Spitalfields is an area of constant change, with a wealth of history and diversity, and surprises around every corner; where 18th century architecture meets 21st century living; where east meets west. Spitalfields Festival is one of a kind: more than a music festival, more than a community programme.
